MUSCAT: Emergency responders from the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) in North Al Batinah acted swiftly after receiving a distress call reporting that a woman had fallen into a well on private residential property in Sohar Wilayat. Upon arrival, rescue teams assessed the depth, structure, and stability of the well to plan a safe extraction strategy. Using specialised rope systems and confined space rescue equipment, the officers carefully descended into the well while maintaining communication with the trapped woman, who was conscious but unable to climb out unaided due to injuries and exhaustion.
According to officials, the operation required precise coordination, with personnel inside and outside the well working together to ensure the victim’s safety while preventing structural collapse. The well’s narrow diameter and depth posed additional challenges, necessitating the use of compact lifting devices to manoeuvre within the confined space. Rescuers stabilised the woman before carefully hoisting her to the surface using a secure harness and pulley system. The CDAA emphasised that the procedure adhered to rigorous technical rescue standards to minimise further risk to both the victim and the responders.
Once safely brought to the surface, the woman received immediate medical attention from on-site paramedics. Initial assessments indicated that she had sustained moderate injuries and signs of dehydration from prolonged exposure in the well. She was stabilised and subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Medical personnel reported that her condition was stable, and she was expected to make a full recovery. The CDAA credited her rescue to the rapid response of its Sohar-based teams and the advanced training of its specialised units.
Authorities have urged residents to take preventative measures to ensure wells and similar hazards on private property are properly secured. Open wells should be covered with durable, lockable lids and regularly inspected to prevent accidents involving children, pets, or adults. The CDAA also encouraged the public to report any unsafe conditions or emergencies immediately through official hotlines. By raising community awareness and improving safety standards, the authority aims to reduce the likelihood of similar incidents and safeguard lives across Oman’s governorates.
