UAE Swelters Under Extreme Heatwave Conditions

UAE: The United Arab Emirates is currently experiencing a severe heatwave, with temperatures climbing to a scorching 46°C in several inland areas. This rise in temperature is placing increased stress on residents, especially outdoor workers, prompting health authorities to issue warnings against prolonged exposure to the sun and to encourage adequate hydration and rest during peak heat hours.

In addition to the soaring heat, humidity levels along coastal regions are expected to climb sharply, with some areas reaching up to 70 per cent humidity. The combination of high heat and humidity significantly increases the discomfort index, making conditions feel even hotter and more exhausting. Residents are being urged to stay indoors when possible, especially during midday hours, and to use air conditioning to reduce the health risks associated with heat stress.

The National Center of Meteorology has forecast that these extreme weather conditions are likely to persist for several days. Light to moderate winds are expected to offer limited relief, mainly during the early morning and late evening hours. Dust may also affect visibility in some open areas, further adding to driving hazards and reducing outdoor air quality.

Authorities are closely monitoring the weather and advising the public to follow safety updates. They also stress the importance of safeguarding vulnerable groups, such as children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses. Employers have been reminded to enforce mandatory midday breaks for laborers working in direct sunlight to prevent heatstroke and exhaustion.
