Total Lunar Eclipse To Be Seen In Oman On Thursday

OMAN: A total lunar eclipse will be visible in the skies of the Sultanate of Oman on Thursday, marking the first occurrence of its kind in 2025. The lunar eclipse will begin partially at 9:09 am local time, with the total eclipse expected to begin at 10:26 am. The total phase will continue until 11:31 am, providing an exciting opportunity for astronomy enthusiasts and sky watchers in the region.

While the eclipse is visible from many regions around the world, not all residents of the Sultanate of Oman will be able to observe its progression. This is because the moon will set in Muscat Governorate at 5:45 am, which is well before the start of the penumbral shadow. Therefore, only those who are in regions where the eclipse will occur during nighttime will have the opportunity to witness the event in full.

Ahmed bin Mohammed al Khalidi, a member of the Oman Society of Astronomy and Space (OSAS), emphasized that the eclipse could be seen in areas experiencing nighttime during the event. However, some observers will have a clearer view than others, depending on their location and the specific timing of the eclipse. Those in parts of the world like Australia, Africa, Europe, the Americas, Antarctica, and the Arctic will also be able to witness the event.

The total lunar eclipse is an exceptional astronomical phenomenon, drawing the attention of sky watchers globally. The alignment of the Earth, Moon, and Sun creates a breathtaking spectacle that can be enjoyed by many. Those fortunate enough to experience the event in Oman should prepare to view this rare occurrence in the skies above.
