Temporary Worker Transfer Service Launched For Khareef 2025

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Labour in Oman has introduced a new temporary worker transfer service aimed at regulating the labour market and supporting citizen employers during the Dhofar Khareef season in 2025. This initiative is designed to ensure that businesses facing seasonal surges in demand, particularly in the tourism and hospitality sectors, have access to additional labour without violating employment laws. The service allows for the legal and structured transfer of temporary workers between establishments, enhancing workforce flexibility and compliance.

By facilitating a regulated mechanism for labour transfer, the Ministry seeks to balance the needs of employers with national employment objectives. Citizen-run businesses in Salalah and surrounding areas often experience increased pressure during the Khareef season, requiring short-term reinforcements. The new system helps avoid unregulated hiring practices and encourages transparency in workforce management. It also aligns with broader labour reforms under Oman Vision 2040, promoting lawful and efficient employment strategies.

The platform enables businesses to request and accept workers on a temporary basis through approved channels, ensuring documentation, contracts, and payments are handled securely and in accordance with legal standards. Employers benefit from reduced administrative burdens and faster processing times, while workers gain temporary employment opportunities in a protected and regulated environment. The system includes digital tools to streamline requests and monitor worker status in real time.

Looking forward, the Ministry of Labour intends to assess the service’s performance during the 2025 Khareef season to explore possible year-round applications. The initiative could serve as a model for managing labour shortages during other national events and peak seasons. By prioritizing both worker rights and business needs, the government is reinforcing its commitment to a stable, fair, and adaptable labour market.
