MUSCAT: The Embassy of Switzerland in Oman celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of fostering strong and dynamic relations between the two nations. Since its opening on 12 November 2014, the embassy has worked tirelessly to strengthen bilateral ties, making significant strides in various areas, including peace promotion, trade and investment, scientific cooperation, and cultural exchanges in sustainable development, education, and health.
In celebration of this milestone, the Swiss Embassy, in collaboration with the Royal Opera House Muscat, hosted a week-long musical program called Desert Bridges. This initiative brought together Swiss and Omani musicians to form a unique ensemble that blended jazz with traditional instruments, highlighting the rich musical heritage of both cultures. The collaboration aims to continue fostering cultural dialogue, with future performances of the Omani-Swiss “Desert Bridge” Ensemble planned in Switzerland.
The event also featured several key highlights, including a gala reception on 10 December to celebrate the Swiss National Day and the embassy’s 10th anniversary, with Swiss musicians participating. In addition, Swiss musicians conducted educational masterclasses for local Omani talent, offering sessions on jazz, modal music, creating solo repertoires, and composing with the dulcimer (qanun). These sessions were designed to inspire and share their expertise with aspiring Omani musicians.
