MUSCAT: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik issued two significant Royal Decrees, reinforcing Oman’s commitment to international cooperation and regulatory compliance. Royal Decree No. (73/2025) ratifies amendments to the Convention establishing the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), reflecting Oman’s adherence to global maritime standards. The decree specifies that all competent departments shall deposit the endorsement documents in line with the Convention’s provisions, ensuring that Oman’s maritime operations continue to meet international legal and operational frameworks.

The decree mandates publication in the Official Gazette and comes into force immediately, signaling the Sultanate’s proactive approach to aligning national legislation with international maritime regulations. This step is expected to enhance Oman’s maritime governance, support the country’s shipping and logistics sectors, and strengthen its role in regional and global maritime affairs. It demonstrates Oman’s ongoing efforts to maintain safety, security, and compliance within international waters, benefiting trade, transport, and economic development.

Royal Decree No. (74/2025) ratifies an agreement between the Government of the Sultanate of Oman and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations for establishing a Representation Office in Oman. Signed on 28 June 2025 at FAO headquarters in Rome, the agreement emphasizes Oman’s commitment to food security, sustainable agricultural development, and international collaboration. By formalizing this agreement through royal decree, Oman strengthens its strategic partnerships with global institutions, enabling knowledge exchange, technical support, and policy coordination in agriculture and related sectors.

The decree also stipulates immediate enforcement and publication in the Official Gazette, underlining the importance of transparency and legal formalization. These measures are expected to contribute significantly to Oman’s national development priorities, particularly within Vision 2040 objectives focused on sustainable agriculture, food security, and enhanced cooperation with international organizations. Overall, the issuance of these decrees reflects Oman’s dedication to upholding international commitments while supporting domestic growth and regional influence in maritime and agricultural domains.
