Strategic Initiatives Approved For Health Znd Well-Being Of Omanis

MUSCAT: The Council of Ministers held discussions on several key initiatives focused on enhancing the health and well-being of Omani citizens.

A national programme for early cancer detection in women was approved, with plans to establish seven early detection units across the governorates of Oman. This initiative is set to provide widespread access to vital healthcare services, especially for the early identification of common cancer types, ensuring timely intervention and better treatment outcomes. The program’s expansion is seen as a crucial step in addressing women’s health and cancer prevention in the country.

Alongside this, the expansion of nuclear medicine services was approved, which includes the establishment of a radioisotope production facility and a nuclear pharmacy. This move aims to meet the rising demand for radiopharmaceutical isotopes, which are essential for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to upgrading medical infrastructure and ensuring the availability of cutting-edge technology for cancer care.

Another groundbreaking development is the creation of a National Centre for Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery. This facility is designed to provide comprehensive eye care, incorporating the latest diagnostic tools and treatment options, while also focusing on research and development to improve ophthalmic services in Oman. The center’s establishment comes in response to the growing demand for eye care services in the country and aims to provide world-class treatment for a wide range of eye-related conditions.

Finally, the Ministry of Health’s Genome Oman project will establish a National Genome and Human Data Centre. This center is focused on building a genetic database unique to Omani society, paving the way for targeted research to improve the early diagnosis and treatment of hereditary diseases. The initiative will play a crucial role in personalized healthcare and genetics-based medicine in Oman.
