State Council Hosts Commercial Law Students From MCBS

MUSCAT: In a landmark initiative to bridge academic learning with practical governance, the State Council of Oman recently welcomed a delegation of Commercial Law students from the Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS). The visit offered students an immersive experience into the workings of Omani legislative processes, enabling them to connect classroom theories with real-world applications. This initiative was aimed at inspiring young minds to develop a deeper understanding of democratic institutions and to encourage active civic participation among the next generation of leaders.

The tour began with an awareness session where senior officials of the State Council explained its functions as the upper chamber of Oman’s bicameral parliament. They highlighted the Council’s role in reviewing draft laws, examining development plans, and offering expert recommendations on matters of national interest. Students were given insight into how policies and legislation are shaped, emphasising the rigorous deliberations that go into ensuring laws meet the best interests of the Omani people. For many participants, hearing directly from those responsible for governance made their studies come alive in a way no textbook could replicate.

Following the briefing, the delegation was guided through the Council’s premises, including its grand halls and main session chamber. Students sat in the same seats used by distinguished Council members and observed the state-of-the-art facilities that support the legislative process. This physical tour gave them a sense of the gravity and responsibility inherent in national decision-making, while the architectural design and technological integration left a lasting impression on their understanding of modern governance.

The visit concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing students to directly engage with Council officials about the challenges and opportunities within policymaking and future legislative work in Oman. This open dialogue showcased the State Council’s dedication to transparency and its commitment to engaging with youth. By facilitating such exchanges, the Council is helping cultivate informed and empowered citizens, nurturing a generation of leaders equipped with both knowledge and civic responsibility.
