Shura Council Reviews Laws On Human Trafficking And Real Estate

MUSCAT: The Shura Council convened today for its fourth regular session of the second regular sitting of the tenth term to deliberate on key legislative matters. Among the primary topics discussed were the draft law on “Combating Human Trafficking” and the draft law on “Real Estate Regulation.” These legislative proposals aim to enhance legal frameworks in their respective areas, addressing crucial social and economic challenges in the Sultanate. The discussions were marked by a detailed analysis of the proposed provisions and their expected impact on the regulatory environment.

The draft law on combating human trafficking seeks to strengthen measures against this crime by introducing stricter penalties, enhancing victim protection, and reinforcing law enforcement capabilities. Council members examined the current legal framework and identified gaps that need to be addressed to ensure comprehensive legislation. The law aims to align with international conventions and improve coordination between relevant authorities to combat human trafficking more effectively. Special attention was given to victim assistance programs, aiming to provide necessary support and rehabilitation for those affected.

On the other hand, the draft law on real estate regulation focuses on ensuring transparency, stability, and efficiency in the property sector. The Council emphasized the need for a well-structured legal framework that safeguards investors, homeowners, and developers. Provisions in the draft include enhanced oversight on real estate transactions, fair housing policies, and the establishment of clear guidelines for property ownership and leasing. The law is expected to facilitate sustainable growth in the real estate market while protecting the rights of all stakeholders.

During the session, council members engaged in extensive discussions, presenting insights and recommendations to refine both legislative drafts. The importance of public awareness and stakeholder involvement in shaping these laws was underscored. Moving forward, the Council will continue its review process, incorporating feedback from experts and concerned entities to ensure that the final versions of these laws effectively serve the nation’s legal and economic interests.
