Sharjah Police Investigate Abandoned Newborn Found In Landfill

SHARJAH: Authorities in Sharjah are conducting an investigation after the body of a newborn baby was discovered in a landfill in the Al Saja’a area. The heartbreaking incident came to light when municipal workers, during their routine waste collection rounds, found the lifeless infant abandoned among the garbage. The baby girl, fully developed and with the placenta still attached, was discarded without any clothing, suggesting she was abandoned shortly after birth.

According to a Sharjah Police official, the newborn’s body was found on January 27 at approximately 5pm. Authorities were alerted immediately, and the infant was transported to a hospital before being sent to a forensic laboratory for further examination. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death and to gather any forensic evidence that may aid in identifying those responsible for the abandonment.

Law enforcement officials have launched an extensive search to locate the mother and any individuals who may have been involved. The police are reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding areas and questioning possible witnesses who might provide critical information about the case. Authorities are also coordinating with medical facilities to check for any recent births that could be linked to the abandoned child.

The discovery of the infant has sparked public outcry, with many calling for stronger awareness and support systems to prevent such tragic incidents. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that abandoning a child is a serious crime with severe legal consequences. Investigators are determined to bring justice for the baby while also addressing the broader issue of infant abandonment in the community.
