Sharjah Police Focus on Enhancing Road Safety by Tackling Bike Misuse

SHARJAH: Sharjah Police are stepping up their efforts to improve road safety by cracking down on the misuse of various types of bikes, particularly the unlicensed and potentially dangerous “boshra’a” bikes. These bikes, which are often used recklessly, pose a significant risk to both riders and pedestrians, especially in busy urban areas. As part of their campaign, the police are increasing their inspections to ensure that these bikes meet safety standards and are being used responsibly.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Marzouq Khalfan Al Naqbi, the Head of the Traffic and Patrols Department, emphasized the growing concerns surrounding the misuse of electric scooters, bicycles, and other personal transport devices. These forms of transportation have gained popularity in recent years, but the lack of regulation and oversight has led to an increase in accidents and violations. Lt. Col. Al Naqbi stated that addressing these challenges is essential for maintaining safety in Sharjah’s public spaces.

“We are actively conducting inspection campaigns targeting different types of bikes throughout Sharjah,” said Lt. Col. Al Naqbi. He further explained that the police are working closely with other relevant authorities to ensure that proper measures are in place to regulate these vehicles. The goal is to strike a balance between encouraging eco-friendly transport options and ensuring public safety. This collaborative approach aims to address the rising concerns about bike misuse effectively.

Sharjah Police continue to encourage the public to follow traffic regulations and remain aware of the risks associated with unlicensed bikes. They are also calling on residents to report any violations they may observe, contributing to the collective effort to create safer roads for everyone. The ongoing inspections and enforcement actions are expected to continue as part of Sharjah’s commitment to enhancing road safety and protecting its citizens.
