Schools Across Oman Prepare For New Academic Year 2025/2026

MUSCAT: Tomorrow, teaching staff, support groups, and supervisors will begin their work in public and special education schools as part of preparations for the 2025/2026 academic year, with students returning next Sunday. This year, public schools will accommodate 66,379 teachers across 1,303 schools, alongside 11,183 administrators and technicians, while special education institutions include 241 teachers and 46 administrators. The Ministry of Education has finalized the appointment of new teachers who successfully passed written and personal evaluations to meet the staffing requirements in various disciplines.

The Ministry has organized induction programs for new teachers and administrative recruits, with sessions focusing on equipping educators with essential knowledge, practical skills, and awareness of current educational projects. The programs aim to develop positive professional attitudes from day one and enhance leadership and administrative competencies among new staff. Additionally, the Ministry is implementing national plans to prepare 100 public and private schools for external review by the Oman Academic Accreditation Authority, strengthening institutional performance and readiness across several governorates.

Professional development initiatives continue to target both new and experienced teachers and administrators, encompassing direct training, e-learning, and fieldwork. Key programs include the New Teachers Program, Equal Educational Opportunities Program in collaboration with the Arab Women Organization, Advanced School Leadership Program, and specialized training in core subjects, special education, modern curricula, assessment, and interactive technologies. These initiatives align with Oman Vision 2040, aiming to enhance educational performance and foster modern teaching practices.

Preparations in Al Wusta Governorate highlight an integrated approach to ensuring a smooth academic year start, including the appointment of 336 new teachers and the total engagement of 1,390 staff members. The governorate accommodates 8,440 students across four wilayats, supported by ongoing infrastructure projects totaling approximately OMR 2,136,845. These projects include new schools, classrooms, laboratories, and maintenance works to ensure safety and optimal learning conditions. The Directorate has also ensured the provision of textbooks, educational equipment, tables, and chairs to support an effective educational process.
