Salalah Hosts International Nephrology Conference With Global Experts

MUSCAT: The 3rd International Nephrology Conference opened in Salalah under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, bringing together senior officials, healthcare leaders, and global experts. Organized by the Omani Society for Kidney Diseases and Transplantation in cooperation with the Directorate General of Health Services in Dhofar, the three-day event is designed to highlight the growing challenges of kidney failure in Oman and explore the latest advances in diagnosis and treatment.

In his keynote address, Dr. Issa bin Salem Al Salmi, Chairman of the Omani Society for Kidney Diseases and Transplantation, emphasized the urgent need for continuous medical updates to meet the rising burden of renal disease. He pointed out that more than 25 international experts from 15 countries are participating alongside local specialists, presenting cutting-edge research and sharing expertise that can help shape future practices in nephrology and transplantation in the Sultanate.

The conference agenda is wide-ranging, covering chronic kidney disease, pediatric nephrology, immunology, transplantation, and innovations in early detection, with particular attention to the role of artificial intelligence in dialysis care. The program also reviews the milestones and challenges of Oman’s National Kidney Transplant Program, reflecting the nation’s strides in expanding treatment options for patients while addressing barriers that remain.

Alongside the scientific sessions, the event features workshops focused on hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, as well as an exhibition showcasing the latest medical technologies. A public awareness campaign at Grand Mall Salalah aims to educate the community on kidney health, while a scientific competition highlights research contributions from both Omani and international participants, reinforcing the conference’s goal of fostering knowledge exchange and raising public health awareness.
