Royal Directives Allocate RO 1 Million For Zakat Treatment

MUSCAT: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has issued Royal directives to allocate RO 1 million through the Waqf Health Foundation “Athar” to the Ministry of Health, aiming to fund medical treatment for individuals eligible for Zakat in private healthcare institutions. This initiative reflects a commitment to enhancing social solidarity, strengthening communal participation, and addressing healthcare gaps by ensuring wider access to medical services across all segments of society. It also highlights Oman’s emphasis on values of generosity, compassion, and the preservation of human dignity.

Senior officials expressed gratitude for these directives, underscoring their significance in reinforcing Oman’s healthcare system and improving the quality of life for disadvantaged citizens. Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, stressed that the initiative demonstrates His Majesty’s vision for sustainable development and prioritization of healthcare. By enabling Zakat-eligible patients to access private facilities, the measure reduces waiting times and ensures that those in need receive timely and specialized medical attention.

The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, will oversee the implementation of this initiative. Registration procedures will begin on September 10, requiring applicants to be officially recognized as Zakat-eligible and supported by medical reports from government institutions. This structured process is designed to ensure transparency, accuracy, and fairness in selecting beneficiaries, while directing resources toward cases in genuine need of surgeries, radiological procedures, and other specialized care.

Officials emphasized that this Royal initiative represents a humanitarian message embodying the essence of Zakat as a bridge between compassion and healing. It strengthens public-private partnerships, stimulates the private healthcare sector, and ensures sustainable access to treatment for vulnerable groups. More broadly, it aligns with the core principles of Oman Vision 2040, focusing on societal balance, improved healthcare distribution, and the safeguarding of human dignity. The initiative is expected to foster stronger community bonds, restore hope for families in need, and reinforce Oman’s values of solidarity and mercy.
