MUSCAT: Oman’s economic landscape experienced a remarkable upswing in the second quarter of 2025, with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) reporting a year-on-year growth of over 306% in licensed commercial activities across various governorates. This substantial increase highlights renewed investor confidence and an accelerated pace of business establishment and registration. It reflects the country’s ongoing efforts to diversify the economy and improve the ease of doing business through digital platforms and regulatory reforms.
The governorates of Muscat, North Al Batinah, and Dhofar led the commercial surge, collectively accounting for the lion’s share of newly licensed activities. Authorities attribute this growth to enhanced local initiatives, streamlined licensing processes, and promotional campaigns aimed at empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs). These moves are in line with Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on sustainable development, private sector growth, and economic resilience beyond oil dependency.
In particular, Muscat witnessed an increase in technology, e-commerce, and logistics ventures, while Dhofar showed promising gains in tourism, hospitality, and agricultural services. North Al Batinah, with its industrial and transport corridors, continued attracting investments in manufacturing and wholesale trade. Each region benefited from targeted government programs aimed at localizing economic development and fostering innovation in key sectors.
This dramatic growth in commercial activity reinforces Oman’s commitment to building a vibrant and competitive economy. With improved infrastructure, greater access to digital services, and rising regional collaboration, the sultanate is positioning itself as a dynamic hub for commerce and investment. The second quarter figures are a clear signal that Oman’s economic strategy is yielding tangible results, setting a strong foundation for continued progress throughout 2025 and beyond.
