Omani Youth To Be Trained In Hospitality Sector

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT) has announced that a significant number of Omani youth will undergo training and preparation for employment in the hospitality sector. This initiative is part of the Ministry’s strategic plan to enhance Oman’s capacity to accommodate increasing tourist arrivals and ensure high service standards across the sector. As global travel continues to rebound, Oman is positioning itself as a competitive destination, and the availability of a skilled, local workforce is seen as a key factor in achieving that vision.

The training programme aims not only to equip young Omanis with practical skills relevant to hotel and tourism operations, but also to foster a deeper understanding of Omani heritage, customer service excellence, and international hospitality norms. By doing so, the initiative supports both job creation and cultural preservation, ensuring that the authentic Omani experience remains at the forefront of the nation’s tourism identity. These efforts are also aligned with Oman Vision 2040, which places a strong emphasis on economic diversification and youth empowerment.

Collaborations with private sector partners and academic institutions are expected to play a central role in delivering the training. Institutions specialising in hospitality education will work closely with tourism operators to create tailored modules that combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. This public-private partnership model is anticipated to accelerate the readiness of Omani youth to enter the job market and meet the evolving demands of the hospitality industry both domestically and internationally.

Moreover, the Ministry sees this initiative as a long-term investment in human capital. Empowering the local workforce in tourism aligns with national employment goals and reduces dependency on expatriate labor in frontline service roles. As the tourism landscape in Oman matures, the presence of well-trained Omani professionals will not only raise service standards but also serve as ambassadors of the country’s values and traditions, enhancing the overall visitor experience.
