MUSCAT: His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidi, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), hosted His Excellency Eng. Khalil bin Salamah, Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Industry Affairs of Saudi Arabia, at OPAZ headquarters in Muscat. The discussions underscored the shared commitment to fostering economic ties and leveraging the unique opportunities presented by both nations’ industrial and economic zones.
The meeting focused on integrating production chains and raw materials across factories within the economic zones of Oman and Saudi Arabia. By aligning resources and expertise, both nations aim to enhance industrial efficiency, reduce costs, and stimulate innovation within their respective zones. Collaborative initiatives such as technology transfer and workforce training were also discussed, emphasizing mutual benefits for sustainable development.
Significant attention was given to the Al Dhahirah Integrated Economic Zone, a flagship project in Oman. OPAZ announced the launch of infrastructure tenders for the project, with 12 coalitions of Omani and Saudi companies expressing interest. This project, alongside the planned dry port and enhanced transit routes through the Rub Al Khali port, represents a cornerstone for increased industrial and commercial collaboration.
The meeting also highlighted the vital role of high-level bilateral relations in driving regional economic growth. The participation of His Excellency Ibrahim bin Saad bin Bishan, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Oman, and other senior officials, underscored the importance of such engagements. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to achieving shared prosperity and strengthening ties in the face of global economic challenges.
