Oman Named Most Affordable Country to Live in GCC

MUSCAT: Oman has emerged as the most affordable country to live in among the GCC nations, according to the 2025 Cost of Living Index released by Numbeo. The report places Oman at the top spot due to its comparatively low cost of living and reasonable rental prices, making it a financially attractive destination for both residents and expatriates. This recognition highlights the country’s balanced lifestyle, where essentials such as food, transportation, and utilities remain within reach for the average family.

The index measures various factors including groceries, restaurants, transportation, utilities, and housing costs. In comparison with its Gulf counterparts, Oman stands out for offering a more economical standard of living without compromising on quality of life. Unlike cities such as Dubai, Doha, or Riyadh, where rent and lifestyle expenses can stretch monthly budgets, Oman provides a more budget-friendly alternative with comparable services and amenities.

According to the data, the estimated monthly expenses for a family of four living in Oman, excluding rent, amount to RO 1,004.7. This figure underscores the relative affordability when compared to other major cities in the region where expenses for the same family structure can easily exceed this amount by hundreds of rials. For individuals, the monthly cost of living without rent is approximately RO 273.5, making Oman a favorable choice for single professionals and students alike.

This distinction not only reflects Oman’s economic stability but also aligns with the government’s long-term goals to attract skilled expatriates, retirees, and investors. With a growing emphasis on diversification and a welcoming environment, Oman’s affordability may contribute to increased migration, investment, and sustained development in the years ahead.
