Oman Ministry Issues Guidelines For National Day Compliance

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion in Oman has issued a notice reminding all enterprises and commercial establishments to adhere strictly to legal requirements during the upcoming National Day celebrations. The notice emphasizes that all products, events, activities, and publications referencing the National Day must exclusively use the term “National Day” in accordance with Royal Decree 15/2025. This directive aims to ensure uniformity in the celebration of the national occasion and to protect the integrity of national symbols, reflecting the Sultanate’s commitment to preserving its cultural and institutional heritage.

Businesses are required to review all promotional content, product packaging, and public event materials to confirm compliance with the prescribed terminology. The Ministry clarified that while the term “National Day” is allowed, certain national symbols are either prohibited or require prior approval before usage. This measure is intended to safeguard Oman’s iconic emblems and royal imagery from unauthorized representation, ensuring that all commercial references remain respectful and legally sanctioned.

Specifically, the use of the Royal Emblem, images of Royal Palaces, and Royal Mosques is strictly prohibited under this directive. Conversely, items such as images of His Majesty the Sultan, the State Emblem, the National Flag, and maps of the Sultanate of Oman may only be used with prior authorization from the Ministry or relevant authorities, such as the National Survey Authority for maps. This system of controlled approval ensures that key national symbols are represented appropriately and consistently in public and commercial spheres.

The Ministry has warned that any unauthorized use of protected elements could lead to legal action against the responsible business or entity. Companies and commercial establishments are encouraged to submit requests for approval well in advance of the National Day celebrations to avoid any compliance issues. By following these guidelines, businesses contribute to the orderly and respectful observance of National Day while upholding the country’s legal and cultural standards.
