Oman Launches ‘Aman’ Campaign Against Human Trafficking

MUSCAT: In recognition of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed annually on July 30, the Sultanate of Oman has launched a national campaign titled ‘Aman’ (which translates to “Safety”). This initiative is spearheaded by the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking and aims to raise awareness among the public about the dangers and signs of human trafficking, while also reinforcing Oman’s commitment to international standards in combating this crime. The campaign reflects Oman’s dedication to protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring justice for victims.

The ‘Aman’ campaign will utilize various platforms including social media, public service announcements, community events, and educational materials to engage the public. A core objective of the initiative is to educate both citizens and residents on how to identify potential trafficking situations and report suspicious activities. Authorities aim to build a more informed society capable of cooperating with law enforcement to dismantle trafficking networks and protect human dignity.

This campaign also seeks to highlight the support services available for victims, including shelters, legal assistance, and psychological care. By making these resources more visible and accessible, the campaign hopes to encourage more victims to come forward and seek help. Officials emphasize that protecting victims is just as important as prosecuting perpetrators, and ensuring a safe environment for recovery is key.

Oman’s efforts through this campaign align with its wider national and international obligations to human rights. The National Committee, along with its partner organizations, will continue to implement strategies aimed at prevention, prosecution, and protection. Through ‘Aman’, Oman underscores that combating human trafficking is not just a legal responsibility, but a moral one that demands awareness, action, and compassion from every member of society.
