Oman Hosts ‘Unity In Wellness’ Event At 80th UNGA

MUSCAT: Oman organized a high-level event titled ‘Unity in Wellness: Advancing Peace through Global Health’ on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York. Co-hosted with Finland, Somalia, Sudan, Switzerland, and Yemen, the gathering brought together ministers, diplomats, and global health experts to examine how health initiatives can foster peace and stability.

The meeting highlighted the interconnectedness of public health and conflict prevention, emphasizing that equitable access to healthcare can act as a bridge in divided communities. Speakers discussed case studies from crisis-affected regions, underlining how vaccination campaigns, mental health support, and emergency medical services can build trust among populations and reduce tensions.

By convening a diverse coalition of partners, Oman underscored its commitment to a multilateral approach to global challenges. Participants debated strategies for integrating health and peace objectives into national and international policies, focusing on funding mechanisms, capacity building, and joint monitoring systems.

The event concluded with a set of concrete commitments and recommendations submitted to the UNGA. These proposals aim to embed health-peace linkages into UN frameworks, inspiring member states and organizations to scale up initiatives that view health not only as a humanitarian priority but also as a driver of long-term peace and resilience.
