Oman Highlights Integrated Maritime Ecosystem At London Summit

MUSCAT: Oman’s maritime sector is undergoing a transformative phase, moving beyond traditional infrastructure development to focus on creating a fully integrated ecosystem that emphasizes flexibility, innovation, and regional connectivity. His Excellency Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary for Transport at the Ministry, highlighted that London serves as a strategic platform for sharing Oman’s achievements and engaging with global shipping leaders. The summit provided a venue to showcase how Oman is positioning itself as a regional hub while addressing emerging industry demands and fostering collaboration with international stakeholders.

Discussions at the summit focused on critical global challenges, including strengthening supply chain resilience, reducing carbon emissions, and streamlining trade procedures. Stakeholders highlighted the need for technology-driven solutions and sustainable practices to ensure that Oman’s maritime sector remains competitive on a global scale. These dialogues underscored the importance of integrating logistics, port operations, and regulatory frameworks into a cohesive strategy that can support both economic growth and environmental sustainability.

Omar bin Mahmoud Al Mahrizi, CEO of ASYAD Ports and Free Zones, emphasized ASYAD’s central role in enhancing Oman’s global competitiveness through comprehensive logistics solutions. By coordinating port operations, free zones, and supply chain networks, ASYAD aims to provide seamless services for international trade partners. This integrated approach not only strengthens Oman’s position in the global shipping arena but also ensures long-term economic resilience by promoting efficiency, technological adoption, and strategic partnerships.

Echoing this vision, Emil Hoogsteden, CEO of Sohar Industrial Port, highlighted the importance of an integrated maritime ecosystem powered by technology, sustainable practices, and international collaboration. On the sidelines of the summit, SOHAR Port and Freezone signed multiple memoranda of understanding with global organizations in areas such as sustainable fuels, maritime services, talent development, safety standards, and media cooperation. These agreements signify Oman’s commitment to building a forward-looking maritime sector that combines operational excellence, innovation, and strong international partnerships.
