MUSCAT: The second phase of Oman’s national campaign to control invasive bird species has seen active participation from local communities, reinforcing the country’s commitment to environmental protection. The initiative, which resumed in early July, specifically targets species like the common myna and the Indian house crow, known for their disruptive impact on native ecosystems. Through coordinated fieldwork, teams have been monitoring key locations where these birds gather and implementing measures to limit their spread. This proactive approach ensures that ecological balance is maintained while reducing the negative consequences on Oman’s native wildlife.
Issa bin Abdullah Al Yahmadi, Chairman of the Sub-Committee for Combating Invasive Birds in South Al Batinah, highlighted that the campaign reflects a sustained effort to safeguard natural habitats across the Sultanate. The teams continue to track and manage the sites affected by these invasive species, using data-driven strategies to mitigate their impact.
