Oman Air Launches Direct Muscat–Amsterdam Route Ceremony

MUSCAT: Oman Air has officially launched its inaugural direct route between Muscat and Amsterdam, marking a key milestone in enhancing the Sultanate’s global air connectivity. The new service, operating four times weekly, is the first direct link between Oman and the Netherlands, reinforcing efforts to position Oman as a premier destination for tourism and trade. The opening ceremony was held at Muscat International Airport and attended by government dignitaries, senior Oman Air officials, diplomatic representatives, and media stakeholders.

His Excellency Azzan Qassim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, praised the initiative, emphasizing the strategic importance of connecting Oman with the Netherlands, a key source market. He noted that the new route would support tourism growth, promote investment opportunities, and strengthen Oman’s image as an accessible, high-quality destination. The route aligns with the Sultanate’s Vision 2040 objectives by expanding the country’s global reach and enhancing visitor access.

The launch also coincides with Oman Air’s recent entry into the oneworld alliance, with Amsterdam being the first destination introduced under the new partnership. This integration provides Oman Air passengers with streamlined access to over 900 destinations worldwide, boosting travel options for global and regional tourists alike. The airline views this step as both symbolic and strategic, underlining its ambitions for expanded international operations.

With Amsterdam joining the airline’s European network, Oman Air now serves 11 cities across the continent. The new route reflects broader efforts to drive economic diversification through tourism and improve air travel infrastructure. Oman Air’s CEO, Con Korfiatis, described the expansion as a sign of momentum for both the airline and the nation, opening fresh gateways for business, tourism, and cultural exchange.
