MUSCAT: Oman has successfully eliminated extreme poverty and made remarkable progress in ensuring nearly universal access to essential services such as electricity, safe drinking water, and healthcare, as highlighted in the latest Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Statistical Report released in May 2025 by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The report marks a significant achievement for the Sultanate, demonstrating its commitment to the global 2030 Agenda and the United Nations’ SDGs. Notably, the report confirms that zero percent of Oman’s population lives below the international poverty line of \$1.25 per day, a target Oman has surpassed well ahead of schedule.
The elimination of extreme poverty is a transformative milestone that reflects the country’s sustained economic growth, social policies, and inclusive development programs. Oman’s government has invested heavily in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, ensuring that all citizens benefit from improved living standards. Access to safe drinking water and reliable electricity has been extended to nearly every household, significantly enhancing the quality of life and reducing vulnerability to health risks. These efforts contribute directly to broader social stability and economic resilience.
Healthcare access has also improved dramatically, with comprehensive services now available across urban and rural areas. The report highlights that essential healthcare coverage has reached almost universal levels, enabling timely medical interventions and preventive care. This progress aligns with Oman’s vision of fostering human development and well-being, emphasizing the importance of health as a foundation for sustainable progress. The SDG achievements also indicate Oman’s ability to address environmental and social challenges effectively while promoting inclusive growth.
Looking forward, Oman is focused on sustaining these gains and addressing emerging challenges, including climate change, education quality, and economic diversification. The government’s continued dedication to the SDGs underlines its proactive approach to ensuring long-term prosperity and environmental stewardship. The May 2025 report serves as both a celebration of past accomplishments and a roadmap for future initiatives that will consolidate Oman’s status as a regional leader in sustainable development.
