North Al Batinah Opens Tender For Liwa Bus Station

NORTH AL BATINAH: The North Al Batinah Governor’s Office has officially launched a tender inviting private sector companies and investors to develop an integrated public bus station in the Wilayat of Liwa. This initiative aligns with the governorate’s broader strategy to modernize transport infrastructure and promote public-private partnerships. The project will follow the DBOT (design, build, finance, operate, and transfer) model, ensuring comprehensive involvement of the investor throughout the station’s lifecycle, from planning to operational transfer.

The proposed site will serve as a major transport hub, and developers are required to include facilities for both public buses and taxis. This provision aims to ensure seamless multi-modal transport options for the region’s residents and visitors, improving accessibility and mobility in the northern part of Oman. The integration of a taxi terminal underscores the intent to create a truly interconnected transport environment that supports both long-distance and last-mile travel.

Authorities emphasize that the scope of the tender is not restricted solely to station construction. Investors are encouraged to incorporate ancillary services and commercial facilities that enhance the utility and sustainability of the station. This could include retail shops, passenger waiting areas, maintenance facilities, and administrative offices, thereby boosting the economic and social value of the project.

By involving the private sector under the DBOT model, the governorate aims to leverage both capital and expertise from investors while retaining long-term ownership of the infrastructure. The tender represents a significant step forward in public infrastructure development and offers a promising opportunity for firms specializing in transportation, real estate, and logistics development in Oman.
