National Hackathon Launched To Promote Governance Transparency

MUSCAT: Oman is set to host a national hackathon as part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting governance, transparency, and efficient management of investment resources across the governorates. The event will coincide with a national symposium on governance in Dhofar Governorate, scheduled for the end of August, highlighting the role of institutional transparency in protecting public funds. By aligning both the hackathon and symposium, the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) seeks to broaden dialogue, drive innovation in public governance, and encourage practical solutions that support sustainable development.

The hackathon embodies the Authority’s commitment to enhancing integrity and transparency across both public and private sectors. It aims to improve performance efficiency, expand participation, and motivate a range of stakeholders—from senior officials to innovative youth—to develop actionable solutions that strengthen governance systems and stimulate effective investment. This initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040 priorities, emphasizing a balanced partnership and integrated roles among government entities, private sector players, civil society, and individuals to ensure optimal institutional performance.

In addition, the hackathon supports the International Anti-Corruption Day 2024–2025 campaign under the theme “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.” The campaign highlights youth as key “guardians of integrity” and underscores their potential to build a corruption-free future. By engaging young innovators, the initiative fosters a culture of ethical leadership while equipping participants with opportunities to contribute to transparent and accountable governance practices across Oman.

The event provides an innovative platform for researchers, specialists, and stakeholders in technology, economics, and management to present practical solutions aimed at enhancing investment efficiency and sustainability. Broad participation is expected from government, private, and academic institutions, as well as youth technical teams, who will compete to propose pioneering digital projects. This collaboration is designed to strengthen the local investment ecosystem, generate added value for the national economy, and advance Oman’s goals of transparent, sustainable, and effective governance.
