MUSCAT: Construction and development work on the sea dock project at the fishing port in Quriyat, Muscat Governorate, has reached approximately 83 percent completion, with a construction cost of OMR 2.979 million. This project is a key part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources’ strategy to develop seaports and enhance their role in supporting coastal communities economically and developmentally. The initiative aligns closely with Oman Vision 2040’s objectives to promote the blue economy and create an investment-friendly environment.
According to Mohammed Abdullah Al Rashidi, a civil engineer at the Directorate General of Fishing Ports, the sea dock development is one of the most significant projects in Muscat Governorate, designed to diversify the economy and attract investments by developing the fishing fleet and expanding public and private services in the port. The project includes constructing a 185-metre fixed dock on the breakwater to accommodate mooring for ships and boats, which will improve maritime handling efficiency and increase the port’s capacity.
The project also features a new investment area covering 33,000 square metres dedicated to commercial and service activities related to the marine and fishing sectors. This development is expected to stimulate local economic growth and fulfill investor demands. Additionally, a designated space will be equipped for installing a marine crane to support ship and boat maintenance, marking a significant upgrade in the port’s technical services and infrastructure.
Mohammed Abdullah Al Rashidi emphasized the port’s expected contributions to the national economy by boosting economic activity in Muscat Governorate, facilitating shipping and landing operations, and creating new job opportunities. The project will also enhance tourism prospects in Quriyat, making it a vital driver for regional development and community prosperity.
