MUSCAT: The new cable car project in Muscat is poised to become a major tourist attraction, extending over three kilometres and featuring three distinct stations designed to offer visitors an immersive experience. The first station will be located at Muttrah Port, adjacent to the fish market, providing convenient access for tourists and locals alike. From there, the cable car will ascend to a mountaintop station behind Al Riyam Park, offering a 360-degree panoramic view of the coastline and surrounding landscapes, ensuring an unforgettable sightseeing opportunity for all passengers.
The third and final station at Hay Al Ward, also known as the Flower Park, will complete the route and integrate the cable car into Muscat’s broader recreational and cultural offerings. The strategic placement of these stations not only enhances accessibility but also creates multiple points of engagement for visitors, promoting longer stays and increased footfall in the Muttrah area. This integration aligns with Oman’s vision to expand tourism infrastructure while boosting local business and hospitality sectors.
Developed in collaboration with the Swiss company Bartholet, renowned for its expertise in cable car systems, the project is being designed and implemented to meet international quality and safety standards. This partnership ensures that the cable car system will operate with the highest levels of reliability, efficiency, and passenger safety, while also showcasing Oman’s capacity to adopt world-class engineering solutions for large-scale infrastructure projects.
The cable car initiative aims to enhance the overall tourism experience, promote economic diversification, improve operational efficiency, and upgrade the infrastructure of Muttrah. By combining innovative design with strategic urban planning, the project is expected to attract both domestic and international visitors, generate new employment opportunities, and contribute to the sustainable development of Oman’s tourism sector.
