MUSCAT: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has taken legal action against 14 domestic worker recruitment agencies for violations related to employment regulations. These agencies were found to be in breach of licensing conditions, failing to meet legal requirements designed to protect both workers and employers. The move is part of an ongoing effort to ensure the ethical recruitment and fair treatment of domestic workers across the UAE. MoHRE emphasized that strict monitoring and enforcement measures will continue to be applied to prevent any exploitation in the sector.
The violations identified included failure to provide proper employment contracts, withholding of wages, and misleading advertisements regarding services and employment conditions. Some agencies were also found to have recruited workers without adhering to proper documentation processes, leading to legal risks for both employers and employees. MoHRE has urged employers to only hire domestic workers through licensed agencies that comply with legal requirements. The ministry has also introduced stricter licensing standards to prevent unethical practices and improve transparency in the recruitment sector.
To protect the rights of domestic workers, MoHRE has been working closely with relevant authorities to enforce labor laws and ensure proper oversight of recruitment agencies. This includes conducting surprise inspections, reviewing complaints from workers and employers, and taking immediate action against violators. The ministry encourages affected workers to report any mistreatment or contract violations through official channels. Additionally, employers are advised to verify an agency’s licensing status before engaging their services to avoid potential legal issues.
The UAE government has been strengthening labor laws to provide better protection for domestic workers, ensuring their rights and welfare are upheld. MoHRE’s recent actions serve as a warning to recruitment agencies that fail to comply with regulations. By increasing transparency and accountability, the ministry aims to create a fair working environment where domestic workers receive the protection and rights they deserve. The public is urged to stay informed about legal recruitment practices and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
