Ministry Suspends Applications for Fish Retail Licensing

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources in Oman has issued Ministerial Resolution No. 41/2025, which temporarily suspends the acceptance of applications for the licensing of retail fish sales, seafood, and related products. This decision is part of an effort to regulate the distribution and ensure the quality of seafood products available in the market.

This suspension will be in effect until further notice, with the aim to streamline the processes and eliminate any irregularities in the system. The Ministry has emphasized that the decision is crucial for protecting both consumers and the fishery sector. It is expected that the review process will lead to more structured guidelines in the future.

The Ministry has stated that the suspension will not affect the ongoing operations of licensed establishments. Retailers who have already received their licenses are not impacted by this decision. However, new applicants will have to wait until the Ministry resumes accepting new applications, and those in the pipeline will be informed about any changes in due course.

Industry experts have expressed mixed views regarding the suspension. While some believe it’s a necessary move to maintain product quality, others are concerned that it might lead to temporary disruptions in the seafood market. The Ministry has assured the public that the suspension will not have a long-lasting negative impact and that the situation will be monitored closely.
