Ministry of Education Shifts to Distance Learning in Some Regions

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Education in Oman has decided to switch to distance learning for all classes in both government and private schools across the wilayats of South Al Batinah Governorate and the wilayat of Seeb in Muscat Governorate. The decision will affect the morning period on Thursday, December 26, 2024, due to forecasted unstable weather conditions in these regions. The Ministry emphasized that the shift is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of both students and teaching staff.

The decision comes amid concerns over adverse weather, which has been predicted to cause disruptions, particularly in terms of transportation and overall safety. The Ministry of Education has communicated that the distance learning arrangement will be temporary, specifically for Thursday morning classes, and will be reviewed depending on the situation’s development. Parents and guardians have been urged to stay updated on the situation through official channels.

In making this decision, the Ministry has prioritized the well-being of students and staff, taking into account the potential hazards posed by the inclement weather. Schools have been advised to implement remote learning protocols, ensuring that lessons and assignments can still be accessed by students from home. The transition to distance learning aims to minimize any disruptions to the academic schedule while maintaining a safe environment.

The Ministry also acknowledged the importance of coordination with local authorities to ensure that roads and transportation services are monitored closely. If further measures are required, they will be communicated promptly to the public. As of now, the shift to distance learning remains scheduled for the morning of December 26, with updates expected based on the weather’s impact.
