Major Infrastructure Projects Underway to Transform Samayil

MUSCAT: Samayil is witnessing extensive development projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, improving living standards, and stimulating economic growth across Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. Key initiatives include the construction of the new Samayil Hospital, the paving of vital roads, renovation of historic landmarks like Samayil Fort, and the development of public parks. These projects reflect a strong focus on balanced development, cultural preservation, and improving essential services, ensuring that both residents and visitors benefit from modern facilities and improved connectivity.

Road development remains a priority, with multiple projects underway to improve transportation efficiency and safety. Internal road works in Samayil have reached 10 percent completion at a cost exceeding OMR 2 million, while the 7-kilometer Al-Najid-Wadi Andam road is 35 percent complete and expected to finish by April 2026. Additionally, the Aqbat Afri Road and Al-Saqari village road projects are advancing with a combined budget of OMR 4.5 million. These roads are being built to high technical standards, incorporating safety barriers, signage, and drainage systems to reduce flood risks and enhance travel safety. Planned projects such as the dualization of Al Madrah Road aim to further strengthen connectivity and support commercial and tourism activities in the region.

Significant progress is also being made in the water sector to meet growing urban and industrial demands. Namaa Water Services Company is executing major projects, including a water distribution network for Samayil Industrial Area, which is 66 percent complete and expected to finish in 2026 at a cost of OMR 12.2 million. Additional projects for Lazgh areas are in various stages, designed to boost water supply reliability and sustainability. Alongside this, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is working on preserving cultural landmarks such as Samayil Fort and the historic Al-Aghbari Mosque, promoting them as heritage tourism destinations while ensuring their architectural integrity.

Healthcare and agriculture are integral to this development strategy, with the new Samayil Hospital achieving over 52 percent completion, ahead of schedule. This modern facility, valued at OMR 45 million, will feature 170 beds and specialized units, significantly enhancing healthcare services for Al Dakhiliyah and neighboring governorates. In parallel, agricultural development projects focus on expanding wheat cultivation, introducing greenhouse technologies, and supporting livestock health to improve food security and local economic growth. These initiatives, coupled with SME involvement and private sector partnerships, underscore a comprehensive approach to sustainable development in Samayil, reinforcing its role as a vital hub in Oman’s future growth plans.
