Jewel of Arabia Expedition Concludes Historic Journey in Salalah

SALALAH: The Jewel of Arabia expedition, which commenced on January 6 from Al Suwaih beach in Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, has successfully concluded its journey in Salalah. This remarkable adventure was led by a team of explorers from both Oman and the United Kingdom, with the primary goal of retracing the historical routes of the renowned British explorer, Bertram Thomas. The journey not only honored Thomas’ legacy but also celebrated the rich history and culture of the Arabian Peninsula.

Over the course of the expedition, the explorers traversed a wide range of terrains in the Al Sharqiyah North, Al Wusta, and Dhofar governorates. From the dry desert landscapes to the rugged mountainous regions, they encountered a variety of challenges that tested their endurance. The team utilized a mix of transportation methods, including traditional camel caravans, trekking on foot, and four-wheel-drive vehicles. These different modes of travel highlighted the resilience and adaptability required for the journey, similar to the trials faced by Thomas during his early 20th-century explorations.

The expedition also served as a significant cultural exchange between Oman and the United Kingdom. By following the steps of Thomas, the explorers sought to deepen the historical connections between the two nations. This collaboration not only strengthened the bond between the two countries but also facilitated a greater mutual appreciation of each other’s heritage and traditions. The expedition’s completion marked a successful chapter in furthering the shared cultural ties that have existed for over a century.

The journey’s conclusion in Salalah was celebrated with a sense of achievement and camaraderie among the explorers. As the final leg of the trip came to a close, the participants reflected on the challenges they had overcome and the valuable lessons learned along the way. Their shared experiences in retracing the path of Bertram Thomas not only honored the past but also underscored the enduring spirit of exploration and friendship between Oman and the United Kingdom.
