Eighteen Asian Women Arrested In Sur For Legal Violations

MUSCAT: Authorities in the Wilayat of Sur have arrested 18 women of Asian nationalities for violating Oman’s Labour Law and the Foreigners’ Residence Law. The arrests were made as part of a coordinated inspection campaign carried out by the Royal Oman Police in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour. The operation targeted locations suspected of harboring individuals working or residing in the Sultanate without proper documentation or authorization.

Officials reported that the women were found engaging in unauthorized employment and residing in Oman without valid residency permits. The inspection team acted on intelligence and conducted surprise visits to several residential and commercial establishments. During the operation, authorities verified the legal status of workers and apprehended those who were in breach of national laws governing foreign workers and residents.

The Royal Oman Police emphasized the importance of adhering to all labour and immigration regulations and warned both employers and expatriates against engaging in illegal practices. Employers found hiring or sheltering undocumented individuals face legal penalties, including fines and potential criminal charges. The Ministry of Labour continues to monitor compliance and encourages businesses to verify the status of all employees.

This latest operation reflects Oman’s ongoing efforts to maintain legal order in the labour market and protect the rights of lawful workers. The authorities have reiterated their commitment to enforcing regulations to prevent the exploitation of workers and the abuse of residency laws. Those arrested will face legal procedures as determined by the competent authorities before deportation or further penalties are applied.
