The ban is aimed at minimizing plastic waste, which has been a growing concern in the region. The ban affects a variety of common single-use items such as plastic straws, Styrofoam food containers, plastic stirrers, and plastic cotton swabs. Following this, a complete ban on plastic bags was enforced in June 2024. The next phase of the plan includes a ban on other plastic items like cups, lids, cutlery, and plates by January 2026.
