Drydocks World Expands Facility to Boost Capabilities

DUBAI: Drydocks World, a leading ship repair and maintenance company, has officially opened a vast 75,000 square meter expansion facility in Dubai, designed to enhance its fabrication capabilities. This multi-million dollar investment aims to increase the company’s fabrication capacity by 40% and yard capacity by 25%, allowing it to handle multiple large-scale projects simultaneously. The expansion reflects Drydocks World’s commitment to meeting growing demand in the energy transition sector and reinforcing its position in the offshore solutions market.

A standout feature of the new South Yard is the largest load-out jetty in the Middle East and Africa, capable of handling structures weighing up to 37,000 tonnes. This infrastructure upgrade positions Drydocks World to take on larger projects, particularly those in the offshore and renewable energy sectors. The addition of a 5,000-tonne Sheerleg Floating Crane, expected to be operational by 2026, will further enhance the yard’s ability to manage complex projects.

The South Yard facility is designed with sustainability in mind, running entirely on clean energy sourced from the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This green initiative will significantly reduce the facility’s carbon footprint, aligning with the company’s environmental commitments. The facility is also equipped to accommodate up to 3,000 workers daily, ensuring that large-scale projects are executed with efficiency and speed.

In addition to improving its physical infrastructure, Drydocks World is positioning itself as a leader in the renewable energy sector. The facility is designed to handle complex projects, such as converting floating production storage and offloading vessels (FPSOs), constructing topsides for offshore platforms, and building high-voltage converter platforms for the offshore wind energy market. With these advancements, Drydocks World aims to solidify its reputation as a premier engineering, procurement, and construction services provider on a global scale.
