MUSCAT: A Royal Decree has been issued in Oman transferring the Directorate General of Medical Services to the Ministry of Health, aligning with the government’s strategy to unify and strengthen healthcare delivery across the country. This strategic move aims to centralize operations, improve efficiency, and enhance the quality of services provided to both citizens and residents. The integration is part of broader administrative reforms intended to streamline governmental functions and promote synergy among healthcare institutions.
By consolidating medical services under the Ministry of Health, the government intends to eliminate redundancy and ensure a more cohesive system of healthcare governance. This transfer will empower the ministry to implement unified policies, standardize procedures, and manage resources more effectively. It also opens the door for the adoption of digital tools, training programs, and development projects that serve the national vision for sustainable health development.
The affected employees and administrative structures of the Directorate General of Medical Services will be gradually integrated into the Ministry of Health’s framework. This process will be carried out in coordination with relevant authorities to ensure minimal disruption and maintain continuity of services. Existing healthcare facilities under the directorate’s supervision will now report directly to the Ministry, fostering better oversight and accountability.
This development reflects Oman’s ongoing efforts to optimize government structures and support the broader goals of Oman Vision 2040. It marks a significant step towards a more resilient and responsive healthcare system, better equipped to meet the demands of a growing population and future health challenges. The decree will be enforced from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
