Dhofar Coastal Areas Experience Intermittent Drizzle And Clouds

MUSCAT: The daily forecast from the meteorology department indicates cloudy to partly cloudy conditions persisting along the coastal strip of Dhofar Governorate and its adjacent mountains. Intermittent drizzle continues to affect these regions, contributing to a cooler and more humid atmosphere. These weather conditions have been consistent for the past few days, influenced by seasonal patterns common during this period. The presence of low clouds over the area suggests that visibility in certain locations may be slightly reduced, requiring caution for motorists and travelers in affected zones.

Meteorologists further reported the possibility of medium and high clouds moving over parts of the Dhofar desert. These cloud formations are expected to bring scattered rain starting from the evening, creating variations in local weather across the governorate. While these showers are likely to be light and brief in most places, some areas may experience moderate rainfall. The spread of these clouds highlights the transitional weather stage as Dhofar gradually moves away from the Khareef season, which brings moisture-laden winds and cooler temperatures to the region.

In addition to Dhofar, the forecast predicts the development of cumulus clouds over parts of the Al Hajar Mountains and their surrounding areas during the afternoon hours. These clouds carry a chance of scattered rain, which may sometimes turn thundery and be accompanied by strong descending winds. Such conditions can lead to sudden shifts in visibility and localized flooding, especially in wadis and low-lying areas. The intensity of these thundery showers will likely vary, but residents and visitors in mountainous areas are advised to remain cautious due to the risk of flash floods and slippery roads.

The forecast also notes the potential for dust and sand to rise in desert areas, particularly within Ad Dakhiliyah and Ad Dhahirah Governorates, due to active winds. These conditions can impact driving visibility and overall air quality, especially in open terrains. Furthermore, late-night and early-morning hours may witness the formation of low clouds or fog along the Arabian Sea coast and parts of the Sea of Oman coast. This could lead to reduced visibility on highways and coastal roads, calling for extra caution among motorists. The overall weather outlook suggests a mix of cloudy skies, localized rain, and occasional strong winds across different regions of Oman throughout the day.
