MUSCAT: The Oman Cycling Federation, in cooperation with Dhofar Municipality, has announced the upcoming Dhofar Classic Cycling Tour, featuring five races covering over 700 kilometres across Dhofar Governorate. The highlight of the event is the inaugural Dhofar Classic, a 178-kilometre race from Al Mughsail to the Darbat Waterfalls, showcasing the region’s stunning landscapes. The event aims to provide an integrated platform for promoting tourism and investment in Dhofar, while highlighting the governorate as a premier global tourist destination.
Other stages of the tour will challenge participants across scenic and historic routes, including Ain Razat to Khor Rori, Taqah Fort to Hajif, Al Haffa Market to Ain Ishhat, and Al Dahariz Beach to Wadi Darbat. Each route has been designed to test the endurance, strategy, and skill of riders while allowing them to experience Dhofar’s natural and cultural landmarks. Organizers expect the diverse terrain to provide both thrilling competition and exceptional exposure to the region’s tourism potential.
Saif bin Sebaa Al Rashidi, Chairman of the Oman Cycling Federation, emphasized that the tour brings together elite cyclists from across the Gulf, the Arab world, and international teams, enhancing the event’s prestige and competitive spirit. He highlighted the Dhofar Classic race as the focal point of this edition, stressing that the tour represents a unique opportunity to combine sport, culture, and tourism, further positioning Oman as a hub for international sporting events.
Participating teams include national squads from Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, and Thailand, alongside international teams from Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Algeria, Indonesia, the United States, Rwanda, and Belgium. The diverse lineup ensures a high level of competition and international engagement, promising thrilling races that will attract attention from cycling enthusiasts and tourists alike. Organizers anticipate the event will boost Dhofar’s profile as a destination for world-class sporting events and sustainable tourism development.
