CPA Boosts Checks At Silal Market Before Eid

MUSCAT: Oman’s Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has intensified its inspection campaigns at Silal Market in preparation for the upcoming Eid Al-Adha holiday. The move comes as part of the Authority’s efforts to safeguard consumer rights and ensure the availability of goods that meet safety and quality standards during a period of heightened shopping activity. With demand for food and livestock products expected to surge in the days leading up to Eid, the CPA aims to prevent any manipulation of prices, deceptive practices, or the circulation of substandard items.

Teams from the CPA are carrying out comprehensive field visits to monitor compliance among traders, particularly those selling meat, fruits, vegetables, and Eid-related goods. Inspectors are checking labels, expiration dates, refrigeration conditions, and adherence to pricing guidelines issued by the Authority. The CPA has emphasized the importance of ensuring that consumers are not exploited during this critical season and that sellers maintain ethical and transparent commercial practices.

The Authority has also set up dedicated channels for receiving consumer complaints and reports of violations. These channels include hotlines, online portals, and physical offices where consumers can quickly raise concerns about suspicious or unfair practices. The CPA has called on the public to cooperate actively in its oversight campaign by reporting irregularities and remaining vigilant while shopping during the holiday period.

This initiative is part of the CPA’s broader strategic plan to promote a fair and secure marketplace in Oman. It reflects the government’s commitment to enforcing consumer protection laws and enhancing public awareness about their rights. With Eid Al-Adha approaching, the CPA’s proactive actions are expected to reinforce trust between consumers and vendors while ensuring that festive preparations take place in a safe and regulated commercial environment.
