AZERBAIJANI: In a significant development aimed at revitalizing energy access in Syria, Azerbaijani natural gas has officially started flowing into the country through the Kilis-Aleppo pipeline, which passes via Türkiye. This move marks the first time Azerbaijani energy resources are being directly channeled into Syrian infrastructure, creating potential for widespread electricity improvements in areas suffering from chronic shortages since the onset of the conflict.
The pipeline connection, facilitated through close cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, was completed after months of coordinated planning and technical upgrades. The transit of gas through the Kilis province in southern Türkiye into Aleppo is expected to power several key infrastructure hubs, including hospitals, water treatment facilities, and urban electricity grids, all of which have been in dire need of stable energy sources.
This energy initiative is being hailed as both an economic and humanitarian measure, aiming to restore a level of normalcy in Syria’s battered cities. While many parts of the country continue to struggle with damaged power lines and fuel scarcity, the inflow of natural gas presents a scalable and cleaner energy option that may also reduce reliance on diesel generators and other emergency alternatives.
Experts suggest that this development could pave the way for deeper regional energy cooperation in the Middle East. It may also help Syria inch toward reconstruction goals by energizing small-scale industries and public services.
