MUSCAT: Ankaa Space and Technology, a pioneering Omani firm, has started the establishment of the first center focused on developing drones and robots. This facility is being built to serve multiple sectors, with a specific emphasis on agriculture, housing, and urban planning. As part of its mission, the company aims to drive innovation in these fields by leveraging advanced technologies such as drones and robotics, offering potential solutions for some of the most pressing challenges in Oman’s development.
The company’s efforts extend beyond just the technological development of drones and robots. Ankaa Space and Technology is also in the process of setting up an urban observatory platform, which is being touted as the first of its kind in the Middle East. This observatory will provide critical data and insights to help improve urban planning and management, contributing to smarter city designs and more efficient use of resources.
Mohammed Salim Al Riyami, CEO of Ankaa Space and Technology, highlighted the importance of collaboration in the company’s efforts. He noted that Ankaa works closely with a number of government and private institutions, including the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, to implement its projects. Through these partnerships, the company is able to tailor its technological solutions to meet the specific needs of each sector, ensuring that its innovations are both practical and impactful.
In addition to these local collaborations, Ankaa Space and Technology has joined forces with NASA to provide Omani students with field visits and opportunities to engage with cutting-edge research. The company also collaborates with OQ to conduct advanced robotics research, furthering its goal of enhancing the application of artificial intelligence and drone technology in various industries. This approach reflects the company’s broader vision of fostering technological advancement and knowledge exchange on a global scale.
