MUSCAT: A recent study by cybersecurity company Kaspersky reveals that while artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform the way people plan their trips, its adoption among travelers remains limited. The research, conducted in collaboration with Toluna, shows that only 28% of global respondents have used AI for travel planning, despite its growing availability and capabilities. Interestingly, satisfaction levels among those who did use AI were exceptionally high, with 96% reporting positive experiences and 84% expressing an intention to rely on AI for future trips. These findings highlight both the promise and the untapped potential of AI within the travel industry.
The report indicates that most internet users are already familiar with AI technologies, primarily for purposes such as research, work tasks, and studying. Travel planning, however, trails behind these categories, even though AI tools offer time-saving advantages and personalized recommendations. Families with children are emerging as one of the groups most likely to adopt AI for trip planning, as these tools can help organize complex itineraries with minimal effort. Experts believe that with growing awareness and trust, AI-powered solutions will soon play a central role in shaping travel decisions worldwide.
Among those who incorporated AI into their travel planning, the most common uses were identifying activities and excursions, selecting suitable accommodations, and finding restaurants. AI was also used for searching tickets and providing guidance on visa and migration requirements, although experts caution travelers to verify such information due to potential inaccuracies. Booking services remain an area where AI integration is less common, with fewer travelers using it to finalize hotel or ticket reservations. Nonetheless, its ability to simplify the decision-making process is becoming increasingly apparent.
Kaspersky’s findings underscore the importance of balancing convenience with caution when using AI for travel purposes. While these tools provide efficiency and personalization, the company advises travelers to double-check AI-generated information and maintain strong cybersecurity measures when accessing such services. Recommendations include using secure networks, safeguarding personal devices with robust passwords, and relying on verified sources for critical details like visa requirements. With adoption expected to rise, AI is poised to become an indispensable companion for travelers seeking smarter and more efficient planning solutions.
