INDIA: Gurpreet Gogi, an MLA from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was found dead late on Friday night with bullet injuries. The Punjab Police confirmed that the incident occurred when Gogi accidentally shot himself. The incident happened around midnight, and he was immediately rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMC) in Ludhiana, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh Teja shared that, according to family members, the shooting was accidental. Gogi reportedly sustained bullet injuries to his head. The DCP confirmed that Gogi’s body has been kept in the mortuary at the DMC hospital for further procedures. He assured the public that further investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the cause of death will be confirmed once the post-mortem report is received.
While the family maintains that it was an accidental shooting, the police have initiated a thorough investigation. The DCP also mentioned that the cause of death would become clearer after the post-mortem report is made available. Gogi had joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2022 and had recently won the Ludhiana assembly elections, defeating two-time former Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu.
