MUSCAT: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in Oman successfully resolved two consumer complaints, resulting in a total refund of RO 1,414 after businesses failed to meet their contractual obligations. In the first case, a consumer purchased ceramics valued at RO 714 from a commercial store, which later claimed insufficient stock and failed to deliver the order. Following the consumer’s complaint and CPA intervention, the full amount was refunded, demonstrating the Authority’s commitment to enforcing consumer rights and ensuring accountability in commercial transactions.
In the second case, a consumer contracted a store to carry out decoration works worth RO 700, of which RO 180 had been paid in advance. The store failed to provide the agreed service, prompting the consumer to escalate the matter to the CPA. Through legal procedures and coordination with the involved parties, the Authority secured a full refund of RO 700, reaffirming its role in protecting consumers and maintaining trust in the marketplace.
The CPA emphasized that businesses must honor the terms of their contracts and respond promptly to consumer complaints to prevent disputes. The Authority also highlighted the importance of transparency and ethical practices in commercial dealings, noting that timely intervention can prevent escalation and ensure customer satisfaction.
