MUSCAT: Muscat’s 2025 World Patient Safety Day celebration emphasized the theme ‘Safe Care for Every Newborn and Every Child’, reflecting global and national commitments to child health and safety. Held under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Saeed bin Hareb Al Lamki, the event brought together ministry officials, dignitaries, and around 250 healthcare professionals, including both medical and paramedical staff, to discuss strategies for improving patient safety. The gathering provided a platform for exchanging knowledge, highlighting best practices, and fostering collaboration across Oman’s healthcare sector.
The program featured a series of scientific lectures, interactive panel discussions, and a scientific exhibition that showcased research papers and innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety. Attendees were exposed to the latest developments in neonatal and pediatric care, emphasizing the importance of systematic safety measures, early risk identification, and the implementation of evidence-based clinical protocols. The event underscored the critical role of continuous professional education in maintaining high standards of care for vulnerable patient groups.
A major focus of this year’s activities was raising public awareness about safety risks in child and newborn care across all healthcare settings. The program encouraged the active participation of parents, caregivers, and children in patient safety initiatives, promoting education, awareness, and empowerment. Additionally, the event advocated for the expansion of research in pediatric patient safety, encouraging healthcare institutions to adopt innovative approaches that reduce preventable harm and improve overall outcomes for young patients.
Complementing the main celebration, the Ministry of Health’s Quality Assurance Center, in cooperation with central directorates, will implement a series of awareness campaigns, educational exhibitions, and visual presentations across hospitals and governorates throughout September. These efforts align with the World Health Organization’s 2025 theme, highlighting the necessity of safe, high-quality healthcare from birth through early childhood. The campaign also reinforces Oman’s broader societal commitment to reducing child mortality, preventing avoidable injuries, and building a healthier, safer future for the next generations.
