APSR Clarifies No Link Between Ghala Fire And Power Outage

MUSCAT: The Public Services Regulatory Authority (APSR) in Oman has confirmed that the fire incident at Ghala Industrial Area and the sudden power outage on Monday affecting multiple governorates are unrelated events. During a recent interview with Al Wisal, Engineer Hilal Al-Ghaithi, the official spokesperson for APSR, provided detailed insights into the causes behind the unexpected electricity disruption. He explained that one of the national power generation stations went offline unexpectedly, which in turn created fluctuations within the broader electricity network, temporarily affecting the supply across several regions of the Sultanate.

The temporary interruption in power was managed promptly as restoration teams quickly mobilized to stabilize the grid. APSR emphasized that this outage was an operational issue within the power generation infrastructure, entirely separate from the fire at Ghala Industrial Area. The Authority reassured residents and businesses that there is no correlation between the two incidents, and measures are in place to prevent similar disruptions in the future. Public concerns linking the industrial fire to the blackout were clarified to avoid any confusion regarding safety and energy reliability.

APSR further stated that all relevant agencies are continuously monitoring the situation to ensure a secure and stable electricity supply across the country. The restoration teams acted efficiently, bringing the system back online in a short period and mitigating potential risks that may have arisen due to the sudden fluctuations. Authorities have also reviewed contingency protocols, aiming to enhance preparedness for unexpected technical faults and to maintain consistent power delivery to both residential and commercial sectors throughout Oman.

The fire at Ghala Industrial Area remains a separate emergency, handled independently by the appropriate civil defense and safety agencies. APSR’s clarification underscores the importance of accurate public communication during incidents affecting critical infrastructure. Residents are encouraged to rely on official updates for information regarding energy supply and to avoid spreading unverified links between unrelated incidents. With the national electricity network now fully stabilized, the Authority continues to ensure that such operational disruptions are addressed swiftly and efficiently to maintain public confidence in Oman’s power infrastructure.
