Oman’s Population Surpasses 5.3 Million With Steady Growth

MUSCAT: As of September 2, 2025, Oman’s total population reached 5,327,347, reflecting an increase of 106,566 people compared to the same period in 2024. This growth demonstrates a steady upward trend, indicating both natural population increase and the continued contribution of expatriates to the country’s demographic profile. Authorities highlighted that the population rise is distributed relatively evenly between Omani nationals and expatriates, signaling balanced demographic development across communities.

The Omani population increased by approximately 54,915, reaching 3,020,307, while the expatriate population grew by about 51,651, totaling 2,307,040. This slight trend of higher growth among citizens suggests an ongoing expansion of the native population, supported by consistent birth rates and policies promoting family welfare. Demographic experts note that this balance between citizens and expatriates plays a key role in sustaining economic stability and workforce dynamics in the Sultanate.

Live birth statistics for July 2025 show 5,322 births among Omanis, up from 5,040 in June, with a fairly balanced gender distribution of 2,759 males and 2,563 females. Expatriate births numbered 557, highlighting that Omani births continue to outpace those of the expatriate community. Analysts point out that maintaining a healthy birth rate among citizens is crucial for long-term demographic sustainability, planning social services, and supporting economic development goals.

Mortality data indicates a slight decline in Omani deaths, with 624 reported in July 2025, compared to 632 in June and 685 in May. From January to July, the total Omani deaths reached 4,471, while expatriate deaths in July were 163, bringing the total for the year to 1,119. These figures reflect improvements in healthcare services, early interventions, and public health initiatives that contribute to population stability and the overall well-being of both citizens and residents.
