ABU DHABI: A woman in Abu Dhabi fell victim to a job scam after discovering a promising advertisement on a popular website. The ad offered positions in a reputable program with high salaries, and the woman, eager to secure the dream job, reached out to the advertiser. However, what seemed like a legitimate opportunity quickly turned into a nightmare as the fraudster convinced her to transfer funds multiple times, claiming that the money was needed for employment procedures and investments linked to the job platform.
Realizing that she had been deceived, the woman decided to take legal action and filed a lawsuit at the Al Dhafra Court of First Instance. The court thoroughly examined the case and ruled in her favor, ordering the defendant to repay the Dh78,000 that she had transferred. Additionally, the court also ordered the fraudster to cover the woman’s legal expenses as part of the ruling.
In her legal claim, the woman demanded not only the return of the transferred amount but also a 12 percent legal interest rate on the sum from the date the claim was made. The court found the defendant guilty of fraud, noting that he had used deceitful tactics to steal money by falsely presenting himself as a recruitment agent. The ruling set a significant precedent in combating job scams and protecting individuals from such fraudulent activities.
The conviction serves as a reminder of the importance of exercising caution when dealing with job offers online. Scammers often exploit people’s hopes and dreams, and it is crucial for individuals to verify the legitimacy of job advertisements before transferring any funds. This case highlights the effectiveness of legal measures in providing justice and deterring future fraudsters.
